Orthodontics
Overview
At Clinius Dental Clinic, we believe every smile is a masterpiece waiting to be beautified.
Orthodontics is a specialized field of dentistry dedicated to diagnosing and treating problems related to teeth alignment. It involves a range of issues, including crooked teeth, improper bites, and various irregularities that can affect not only the visual appearance of your smile but also your overall oral health. Our clinic offers all modern techniques in orthodontics, fixed and removable appliances, for children and adults.
Types of Orthodontics
Interceptive Orthodontics
Interceptive orthodontics is the first step towards creating correct relationships between jaws and teeth alignment. Like with other pathologies, prevention or early treatment brings the best results. The goal of interceptive orthodontics is to identify dento-skeletal problems early in childhood. Occlusion control and jaw development begin around ages 4-5 when children are more cooperative and continue to be monitored until puberty.
Interceptive orthodontic appliances can be inside or outside the mouth, and sometimes can be fixed directly on the teeth. Fixed devices are used to correct transverse mismatches of the upper jaw, known as rapid expanders.
If this anomaly is not corrected at this stage, the problem will transfer to the lower jaw, and when growth is complete, the only solution to achieve regular jaw alignment is orthognathic surgery. Therefore, to avoid surgery and achieve the best results, it is recommended to consult an orthodontist as soon as your child turns 5.
Fixed Orthodontics
When we talk about fixed orthodontics, we refer to a device consisting of a system of plates (brackets), bands, tubes, wires, and ligature elastics. This appliance is the most suitable solution for correcting teeth alignment and remains the best alternative for treating severe alignment anomalies.
The plates are placed on the outer surface of the tooth, but in some specific cases, if possible, they can be placed on the inner surface, making them invisible. Wires are changed every 2 or 3 months, gradually increasing thickness and strength. Treatment lasts around 2 years; however, this depends on the type of anomalies.
The traditional fixed system uses metal plates, which are the only solution for more complicated cases. In addition to metal plates, aesthetic plates can also be used. Ideally, treatment begins at ages 12-14, but fixed orthodontics has no age limit, so it’s never too late to achieve a beautiful smile.
Aesthetic Plate Appliances
One of the main concerns of patients wearing orthodontic appliances is the appearance of metal plates on the surface of the teeth, which may limit them in daily life. To overcome this aesthetic problem, thanks to advanced technology, metal plates can be replaced with ceramic or sapphire plates.
Ceramic plates are tooth-colored, while sapphire plates are transparent, making them almost invisible. However, the wire connecting each plate remains metal, and is in fact the only visible component in these appliances.
Invisible Orthodontics
Invisalign® invisible aligners represent the newest generation of orthodontic appliances, which can forever transform your smile and your life.
After years of research, orthodontics finally offers you the possibility to have the smile of your dreams without being noticed by others.
This treatment includes a series of fully transparent plastic aligners, created in certified laboratories using a special material called SmartTrack. The production of aligners is done according to the orthodontist’s instructions after they have studied your case.
It is very important to choose a specialized and updated doctor in invisible orthodontics, as they will virtually determine every tooth movement to achieve the desired result.
The number of aligners and the duration of treatment depend on the initial diagnosis and specific condition. Aligners are changed every two weeks, and you are given all of them at the start of treatment, avoiding the need for frequent clinic visits as required with traditional fixed appliances.
